Hangar Linate Prime: High-Performance Waterproofing for Exclusive Aviation Facilities
Located in Lombardy, within the strategic aviation hub of Linate Airport, the Linate Prime hangar stands as a benchmark in the world of private and executive aviation.
Designing and protecting a structure of this scale requires advanced technical waterproofing solutions capable of guaranteeing durability, safety, and long-term performance — especially in a high-value, high-exposure environment where reliability is essential.

Project Objectives
The redevelopment of the flooring of hangar no. 3 of Linate Prime covered a total surface area of 1,720 m². The hangar, managed by SEA Prime S.p.A., is a strategic infrastructure that hosts latest generation Business Jet aircraft, including the Pilatus PC-24, Embraer Legacy 450 and Phenom 300 models.
The main objectives of the intervention were defined to respond to stringent operational needs:
- Long-lasting waterproof protection across wide roof areas
- High resistance to thermal expansion and structural stress
- Mechanical durability and weather resistance
- Easy future inspection and maintenance
- Full alignment with aviation and airport safety requirement
The Challenge: Protecting a Strategic Aviation Structure
Aircraft hangars are subject to some of the most demanding environmental and structural conditions:
- Extensive roof surfaces exposed to weather and thermal fluctuations
- Significant structural movements due to large spans
- Strict safety standards required in aviation environments
- Minimal tolerance for maintenance interruptions, given continuous operational needs
For a premium facility such as SEA Prime, the waterproofing system needed to ensure maximum reliability, long-term protection and performance continuity.
The Technical Solution
To meet these requirements, the project adopted a high-performance liquid waterproofing system developed by Winkler.
Liquid membranes offer decisive advantages for hangar structures:
Main operational phases
The intervention was carried out with a certified technical sequence to guarantee adhesion and durability:
- Seamless application, with no overlaps or weak points
- Excellent adhesion to a variety of substrates
- Adaptability to complex roof details and structural joints
- Fast installation, minimizing downtime and operational disruption
Performance Advantages
Total waterproofing, even under standing water conditions
Outstanding UV exposure and weather resistance

FAQ – Waterproofing for Airport Hangars
Why choose a liquid waterproofing system for an aircraft hangar?
Liquid-applied systems create seamless membranes, eliminating overlaps and minimizing weak points – a major advantage on very large surfaces.
Is the system resistant to thermal expansion?
Yes. Elastomeric formulations are designed to accommodate structural movement caused by temperature variations.
Does it reduce maintenance requirements?
Yes. High UV resistance and weather durability significantly extend maintenance intervals.
Is the system suitable for large-span structures?
